Do you need to reach new people in your ministry? Have you worn out all of the tried and true eforts like bulletin inserts, announcements and posted signs? Here’s a simple strategy that may help you add some life to your recruitment efforts.
Conduct a “tell-a-thon” where every ministry member commits to telling a different person each day about the ministry and the church for 40 days [See Psalm 34:2]. By doing so, ministry members will encounter a variety of people. To ensure that ministry members also share with new people, challenge each member to consider sharing with at least one person in their family or neighborhood, and do one of the following:
- Provide each ministry member with talking points about your ministry [who, what, where, when and how, especially why get involved]
- Share with each member the mission of the church and the church’s vision
- Create business card-sized invitation cards for those interested; be sure to include meeting time/date, location, scriptures/ verses, etc.
- Check in with ministry members every 10 days; provide support and helpful tips to keep members motivated throughout 40 days (Try note cards, sticky notes, reminder emails/ text messages, conference calls, prayer lists attached to emails, etc.)
Use the tell-a-thon to reach new people for the Lord through your current ministry members. Extend or adjust the period of time to accommodate special events and activities at your local church. Take the time to build up a major buzz within the entire church if you are going to conduct the tell-a-thon as a church-wide approach to evangelism.
