How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.- Psalm 119:9 (NLT)
The desire to live a pure life is admirable. Yet, the question is posed. The question is answered. God desires that we live obedient lives. Obedience is the answer to what is sought as an answer from God.
The verse that follows speaks of trying with all of our heart to obey God, and then shifts into a prayerful plea: do not let me stray from your commands (v. 10, NIV). It should stand for all of us that we say something similar to God in prayer. We know ourselves and we know what God asks of us and commands us to do. Our tendency is to stray away from God and His ways because we have a sinful nature. We get to doing an ad hoc Christian walk rather than stopping and asking God for His help. He’s accessible and available. Will we call on Him?
If we desire a pure life that is good. Our heart seems to be in right place if so. Our issue now is how we will learn it to live by it. In seeking to live by it, we are going to need His help, support and power. We cannot simply do all that we are to do in our own strength. So, let us seek God and gain what we need from Him as He walks with us.
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.- 1 Cor. 12:9 (NASB)
