21 How the faithful city
has become a whore,
she who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.
22 Your silver has become dross,
your best wine mixed with water.
23 Your princes are rebels
and companions of thieves.
Everyone loves a bribe
and runs after gifts.
They do not bring justice to the fatherless,
and the widow’s cause does not come to them.
– Isaiah 1:21-23 (ESV)
The Christian church can make a difference in its community. The conditions of most environments where the church is located call for change. The church can set the stage for social change if we will accept the call from the Lord to first change its perspective and priorities.
The church is made up of people and should make people its main business. The church should reach out with compassion and concern for its fellow man.
In order to bring about social change, the church will need to return to God’s call for repentance that serves to reconcile hearts and redeem souls. The church has internal work to do as well as external work to do in the name of God. The meetings and conferences, prayer vigils and church socials, will need to serve as the launching pad for the church’s external work. This external work will lead to good works that shine before men, women and children who will glorify the Father for the workers who entered into His vineyard for the plentiful harvest.
Let’s get working!
