Imperfect People and a Perfect Plan

70 He chose David his servant
and took him from the sheepfolds;
71 from following the nursing ewes he brought him
to shepherd Jacob his people,
Israel his inheritance.
72 With upright heart he shepherded them
and guided them with his skillful hand.
Psalm 78:70-72 ESV

God does something miraculous with us. He uses imperfect people to accomplish the glorious work of His perfect plan.  Imagine that.  He uses whoever He chooses.

He chose David…

God Chooses Us
The choice is God’s, not ours.  He is open and honest when He states that His ways are not like our ways.  In fact, He clearly states that His ways are above ours.  God is autonomous.  He is God Almighty without our help.

…and took him from the sheepfolds…he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people

God Moves Us
God moves us from where He has us to where he wants us.  When you get a chance, check out Jonah’s story.  Jonah tried to get away as far from God’s determined destination for as possible, but God got him right where He wanted him.  God will move us.  He can move us like He did David and place us in a privileged and predestined position.  He can move us.

With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.

God Uses Us
God used David to accomplish much through his livelihood and his life.  Even some of David’s stumbles and snafus led to him crafting beautiful psalms that resonate with hearts and souls today.  David was used by God.  God uses individuals who don’t have the right resume or the perfect portfolio.

God uses whoever He chooses.

  1. Does anything ever get better.

Its hard feeling safe in Gods hand when it seems the more one follows Him, the more one’s life falls apart. Its hard to feel secure.

Seems like nothing ever gets better.

    1. I’ve been there. You get closer to God, but it seems like you catch more hell than when you were at greater distance from Him. It seems like things were “better off” when you were not as into it. That is what it seems like but it isn’t the truth. We are under attack because we are His “special people” (Titus 2:14). Jesus told His disciples that since the world hated Him that they would surely get similar treatment since they followed Him. Yet, they were beaten, jailed, persecuted and disgraced for His name’s sake and kicked off a revolutionary change with the help of the Holy Spirit that we have come to call Christianity. They endured ll that was thrown at them and preached everywhere they went when the persecution caused the church to scatter. I know I am sharing about the collective response of the church and the disciples, but you have to remember that every individual made a decision to do it or dump it. Be certain of that.
The situation or circumstances may not get any getter, but you stay close to the Lord. He cares for you and He loves you. He just wants you to be assured of that despite what all is falling apart around you. He wants your relationship with Him to be stronger.
Be blessed in His name today. I trust that I have probably said a whole lot for you to sort out, but the Lord has more answers than I do. Seek Him out boldly and call on Him based on His promises. Take His Word into your heart and let it minister and nourish you in meditation and prayer as you approach Him and seek further guidance.
