Pray in Secret

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:6 (ESV)

When Jesus breaks down the difference between what the hypocrites typically do and what He’s sharing with people to do regarding prayer, we see a glimpse of what is done for show and what is done from a place of sincere and genuine hearts geared towards seeking God. Jesus is careful to show us the vast difference between these two approaches to God.

Jesus also shares the secret to praying in secret.

God will still “reward you,” even though you weren’t praying in public out on the streets or praying out loud.

God hears your heart and He knows your innermost parts. Your spiritual connection to God is intact in your secret place as well as anywhere else.

Take a moment today and reflect on how God fits into prayer in your life. Think about how much time we waste trying to find those right words to fit just right.

Here’s another secret revealed.

God’s not even impressed by all of that.

Just go to Him with a broken spirit and a contrite heart, and He will still hear you and reward you.

Always pray and don’t lose heart.
