A good name is to be more desired than great wealth. . .

Proverbs 22:1 (NASB)

Riches Don’t Amount to Enough

Money can buy you a lot of things.

In fact, money can buy you some things that allow for temporary fulfillment. Some of those things can actually be seen and termed as reaching a point very close to happiness. But the truth is that much of what is bought gives us a sensation for a fleeting moment.

Those who love money will never have enough.

How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness

Ecclesiastes 5:10 (NLT)

It doesn’t matter if what we consume is a feeding frenzy where we eat our emotions or if we lean into our compulsion through shopping or gambling. Whatever money can buy us will never truly satisfy us. After the momentary sensation of it all, we’re still left with a sense of emptiness.

Reputation Over Riches

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

Proverbs 20:11 (KJV)

Your reputation is built upon what you do and how you do it. Your reputation also includes how you treat people.

What You Do

What you do speaks volumes compared to how much you have.

How much you have determines whether other folks see you as rich or not. You might even have a certain number in mind yourself for your own rich barometer.

But how much you have does not determine how you feel about yourself.

It does not amount to your self esteem.

What you do can be rewarding.

What you do can actually be fulfilling.

How You Do What You Do

Part of your reputation stems from how you conduct yourself.

Are you fair? Are you stuck up? Are you all about yourself?

How you conduct yourself shows others what type of person you are in this life.

You build a reputation for being a particular type of person by how you conduct yourself, especially in the presence of others.

Look at how you conduct yourself and how that impacts how others see you.

How You Treat People

You truly build a reputation for yourself by how you treat people.

People can deal with a lot, but very few people can stand someone who fails to treat people right.

Want to build a good name?

People should not be dehumanized or degraded due to how you do things.

People should not feel less than anyone or anything just because you enter the room or open your mouth.

A good name is a good reputation. And a good reputation carries more weight than a fat bank account on any given day.
